The court will now address the legal status of the remaining two floors of the five-story mosque in Sanjauli, Shimla, during a hearing scheduled for March 15.
The court of Shimla Municipal Commissioner Bhupinder Kumar Attri has granted the Sanjauli Mosque Committee an extension until March 15 to demolish the top three floors of the mosque, which were built "beyond the permissible limit."
The committee’s advocate informed the court that 50% of the demolition work had already been completed. However, citing a shortage of funds, the committee requested additional time to comply with the order. The court will now address the legal status of the remaining two floors of the five-story mosque in Sanjauli, Shimla, during a hearing scheduled for March 15.
Previously, on October 5, the Shimla Municipal Commissioner’s Court directed the demolition of the top three floors within two months. This decision followed an agreement by the mosque committee, led by President Latif Mohammad, to carry out the demolition themselves after a protest on September 11 left 10 people injured.

A large protest broke out outside the Sanjauli Masjid in Shimla on September 5, with demonstrators accusing the mosque of illegal construction. The gathering, which included locals, BJP workers, and extremist members of Hindu organizations, also raised concerns over the increasing presence of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the area. Protesters alleged that this influx was causing social unrest and called for an investigation into their numbers and origins.
