Islamic school rated as 'good' in Ofsted report full of praise

Bolton Islamic Girls School pupils celebrate their school being rated as good

A school that is "friendly and welcoming" and where students "feel cared for" has been rated as "good" by Ofsted.

Established in 2012 on Weston Street in Great Lever, Bolton Islamic Girls Schools is an independent Muslim girls' school that is commended for its atmosphere and close bonds between students and faculty.

High expectations for behavior are met, according to the report, which also describes an inspection that took place in November 2024.

Additionally, it states: "Students cherish the chance to cultivate new skills and passions.

For instance, students can debate a variety of regional, national, and worldwide issues in the debating club.

"For example, the debating club allows pupils to discuss a range of local, national, and international topics.

"Pupils enjoy boxing, sports, business, and meditation clubs. They benefit from trips and visits to museums and different places of interest.

"These experiences help pupils to develop self-esteem and confidence."

The school has previously been named one of the UK's best for progress. (Credit:NQ)The school's student council was also praised for its ability to make pro-active positive changes, such as tweaks to the uniform and organising collections for the homeless.

The report says: "The school is ambitious for its pupils. This is reflected in the school’s curriculum offer which provides a broad range of subjects and fulfils the requirements of the independent school standards (‘the standards’).

"Pupils are well supported to gain qualifications which help them in the next stage of their education or employment."

The regulator also praised the school for its work in overcoming barriers so that pupils who speak English as a second language get the support they need.

Bolton Islamic Girls schools also utilises older pupils to act as reading mentors for younger ones.

The report did note some aspects of the school need to improve.

It says: "The school has not fully ensured that teaching is adapted to best meet the needs of some pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) effectively.

"This means that some of these pupils do not achieve as well as they should."

In terms of prepping children for the world of work, pupils often visit local colleges and learning centres so that they are adequately briefed.

With regards to staff, the report reads: "Staff feel valued and listened to.

"They appreciate the school’s consideration for their workload and well-being. They particularly value the training and support that they receive to help them in their roles.

"The proprietor ensures that the premises are well-maintained and equipped with sufficient facilities to support the needs of pupils. The school is compliant with Schedule 10 of the Equality Act 2010. The standards are consistently met. "

Bolton Islamic Girls School was previously rated as "good" in 2021, although required improvement in 2019, according to Ofsted.

It charges school fees of £3,000 annually.
