A Hull lady who just converted to Islam is about to begin her first Ramadan and has produced a popular series of videos evaluating halal cuisine in the city.
West Hull native Lucy White, 23, became a Muslim in April of last year after realising that many of the individuals who showed her kindness online were Muslim. She made the decision to learn more about Islam and discovered that many of its fundamental ideas aligned with her own.
She told Hull Live: "I was on social media previously to the account about halal food reviews, I was a personal creator and live-streamed every night and the people joining my lives were Muslim.
"I wanted to learn more about the religion to be open-minded about it, not with the intention of actually becoming Muslim myself. I thought, 'These people are so nice to me, the least I can do is learn more about them'.
"As I was reading about it, I started to resonate with things. I have never drunk alcohol ever in my life, and I was surprised by things like how Islam normalises not drinking alcohol, when I feel like it is so demonised in society if you are a non-drinker.
"I love the morals of the religion, giving to charity, being kind. I noticed as I was reading more and more about Islam, good things started to happen in my life. Things just started to seem easier.
"Crazy things started happening, I got a free meal in a restaurant really randomly. I just enjoyed learning about it and practising prayer made me feel calm."
After wondering which eateries and takeaway in the city would accommodate Muslims, who abstain from eating pork and have laws governing the killing of animals, Lucy came up with the concept for her TikTok channel, Hull Halal Hub.
She said: "When I was out with my family - they are not Muslim - we went to Horsea and I couldn't eat anything and there was nothing that was halal. I tried typing in TikTok 'halal in Hornsea' but there was nothing and I thought I wish there was someone telling people what is halal in Hull.
