Metropolitan Police data reveals that Newham recorded the highest number of reported criminal offences among East London boroughs in February.
Despite an overall decline in crime across all boroughs compared to January, Newham remained at the top, reporting 3,109 offences. This was a decrease from 3,231 the previous month, but theft, violence against the person, and drug offences continued to be the most common crimes—making up 66.3% of all incidents. Notably, only drug-related offences saw an increase from January, while theft accounted for 35.5% of total reports.
Tower Hamlets followed with 2,424 reported crimes, marking a decrease of 275 from January. Theft, violence, and drug offences were again the leading categories, contributing to 67.2% of all cases. However, reports of sexual offences and robbery saw slight increases despite the overall decline.
Redbridge ranked third, with 1,776 crimes reported—down 159 from the previous month. Violence against the person remained the most common offence, followed by theft, vehicle crimes, and drug offences. Theft was the only category to see a rise from January.
Waltham Forest closely followed with 1,767 reported crimes, reflecting a drop from 1,859 in January. The main offences remained theft, violence, vehicle crime, and drug offences, with only violent crimes seeing a small increase.
Barking and Dagenham had the second-lowest crime rate in East London, reporting 1,363 offences, down from 1,546 in January. While violent crime declined by 12.5%, sexual offences surged by 39%, and robbery spiked by 109.5%.
Havering remained the safest borough, with 1,356 reported crimes. Violence against the person (27.6% of cases) and theft (25.4%) were the most common offences. While vehicle crime and arson saw moderate increases, drug offences, public order crimes, and robberies declined.
