Family Mourns "Kind and Warm" Nirodha as Murder Investigation Continues

A shocking incident in Riverside, Cardiff has left a community in mourning and a family shattered, as a murder investigation unfolds. The victim, Nirodha Kalapni Niwunhella, a 32-year-old woman, was found with fatal injuries on August 21, and her family has now released a heartfelt tribute, remembering her as a beacon of "kindness and warmth."

The tragic events began at approximately 7:37 a.m. on August 21, 2025, when emergency services were called to South Morgan Place in Riverside. Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene to find a woman, later identified as Nirodha, suffering from serious injuries. Despite the valiant efforts of the medical team, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 37-year-old man, who was known to Nirodha, was arrested shortly after the incident on Seawall Road in Splott. He remains in police custody and has since been charged with her murder. The suspect's name has not been released by the authorities at this time.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Matthew Davies extended his condolences to the grieving family and has continued to urge the public for any information that may assist the ongoing investigation. The police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw a grey Ford Fiesta in the vicinities of South Morgan Place or Seawall Road, including Wellington Street, Clare Road, Penarth Road, and East Tyndall Street, between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the incident. This vehicle may hold crucial clues related to the crime.

The shocking murder has sent ripples of sadness throughout the community. Neighbors and friends expressed their grief, with some laying flowers and candles at the scene. The police have set up a dedicated portal for information, urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
