Myanmar Powerful Earthquake

Myanmar was struck by two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 6.4 on the Richter scale, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Friday. The epicenter was located in central Myanmar, approximately 50 kilometers east of Monywa.

The quake caused significant damage, including the collapse of the iconic Ava Bridge in Mandalay and a mosque, which led to at least three fatalities. A hospital declared itself a “mass casualty area” as multiple buildings collapsed and roads cracked, prompting Myanmar's military government to request international aid.

Tremors were also felt in parts of Thailand, where an under-construction skyscraper in Bangkok collapsed, killing at least three people and trapping several workers.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the disaster, offering assistance and directing Indian authorities to remain on standby.

Seismologist Says Bangkok Usually Doesn't Have Earthquakes, But It’s Vulnerable

Earthquakes are an unusual occurrence in Bangkok, a seismologist said after a 7.7-magnitude temblor struck neighboring Myanmar, sending tremors across the country and toppling buildings as far away as Bangkok. Phumtham Wechayachai, deputy prime minister of Thailand, said that such an event has “never happened in 100 years.”

103 Killed In Myanmar, 4 Deaths In Thailand

The death toll in the Myanmar earthquakes has now risen to 107, of which 103 are in Myanmar. Four deaths and over 50 injuries were reported in Thailand. Additionally, two people were injured in China.
