Aldi has rolled out a new £14 hourly pay rate for staff at more than 65 stores within the M25, just in time for the busy festive season and as part of its wider growth strategy.

The discount supermarket giant is also set to recruit 4,500 new store employees ahead of Christmas to support its expansion, with nine new branches opening inside the M25 and a long-term plan to launch 100 stores across London. Available roles include store assistants, managers, and cleaners to help with restocking shelves and serving customers over Christmas and into 2026.

Kelly Stokes, Aldi UK’s Recruitment Director, said:

“We want to ensure everyone has access to affordable, quality food – and demand always rises during Christmas. That’s why we’re hiring more colleagues to maintain the best shopping experience. Our people are the core of our success, and once again, we’ll be closing all stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day to give staff a well-earned rest with their families.”

In addition, Aldi has announced a pay rise for store assistants, with rates increasing to at least £12.71 per hour from March 1, making it the UK’s highest-paying supermarket. This new minimum wage also exceeds the Real Living Wage set by the Living Wage Foundation last year. Employees will continue to benefit from paid breaks, estimated to add around £1,370 annually to the average colleague’s income.

As part of its festive policy, Aldi will close all stores on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, allowing staff extra time off. The retailer currently runs over 1,050 stores across Britain.
