In a powerful testament to integrity and the spirit of the Hajj pilgrimage, a Nigerian pilgrim from Plateau State, Hajiya Zainab, demonstrated an extraordinary act of honesty on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. While performing her spiritual duties in the sacred Masjidul Haram in Makkah, Hajiya Zainab discovered a significant sum of $5,000 and, without hesitation, ensured its return to its rightful owner – a Russian pilgrim.

The commendable development was swiftly confirmed by both the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) of Nigeria and the Plateau State Pilgrims Board, led by the Honourable Daiyabu Dauda. Speaking on the incident, Honourable Dauda lauded Hajiya Zainab's rare display of kindness and integrity during the ongoing 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.

"She demonstrated exceptional integrity and honesty by returning $5,000 she found in Masjidul Haram to its rightful owner. That’s a remarkable act of kindness!" Dauda stated, emphasizing the profound impact of her actions. "Her actions embody the values of honesty, trustworthiness, and compassion, which are essential for a Muslim. May her story inspire others to emulate her exemplary behaviour."

The recovered funds, equivalent to approximately ₦8,240,000 at the current exchange rate of ₦1,648 per US Dollar, underscore the substantial nature of Hajiya Zainab's ethical decision. Her selfless act serves as a beacon of hope and a powerful reminder of the inherent goodness that can prevail even amidst the vast crowds of pilgrims from across the globe.

This incident echoes a similar display of integrity from the 2024 Hajj season. Abba Saadu Limawa, a pilgrim from Jigawa State, also returned a lost purse containing $800, 690 Saudi Riyal, and Russian currency, which he found at Masjid Nabawi. That act of honesty was also reported by NAHCON, with Limawa handing the purse directly to NAHCON Chairman/CEO Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi. Such incidents highlight the deep-rooted values of honesty and ethical conduct that NAHCON strives to uphold and encourage among Nigerian pilgrims.

The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, brings millions of Muslims together in a spiritual journey. While personal devotion remains paramount, stories like Hajiya Zainab's transcend individual faith, promoting universal values of honesty and compassion that resonate with people of all backgrounds. As the 2025 Hajj continues, her actions serve as an inspiring example for all.
