Pedestrian killed after being hit by car in Leicester

  • Police have said two men and two women were injured in the collision which took place following a report of a fight at the same location.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested following an incident in Leicester where a car struck several pedestrians, police have confirmed.

The collision occurred shortly after 12:30am on Saturday on De Montfort Street. Two men and two women were injured in the incident, which followed reports of a fight in the same area.

According to Leicestershire Police, three of the victims have been hospitalized with serious injuries, while the fourth sustained only minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect and the victims had all attended a private event nearby prior to the incident.

The arrested man, a Leicester resident, is being held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody for questioning.

A vehicle believed to have been used in the collision was located on Margaret Street and has been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.

Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall stated:
“We understand the community will be deeply concerned about this incident. A full investigation is underway to determine what happened. A man is currently in custody, and a large cordon remains in place at the scene while we carry out forensic and other enquiries.

We urge the public not to speculate, particularly on social media, to avoid hindering the investigation. Officers are present in the area to provide support and gather any information from the public.”
