Universal Credit payments may be rescheduled this week due to the Easter bank holidays, with some recipients getting their money earlier than usual.
Because both Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21) are official bank holidays, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) won’t be issuing payments on those days.
If you're normally scheduled to receive a benefit payment on either of those dates, you’ll likely get it earlier. For most, that means receiving their money on Thursday, April 17.
However, while the early payment may come as a welcome surprise, it's important to budget accordingly — the funds will need to last longer since the regular schedule will resume after the holiday.
Payments due on any date other than the bank holidays will be processed as usual, with no changes to the amount.
Other DWP benefits besides Universal Credit may also be affected, depending on when your payments typically arrive. These include:
State Pension
Child Benefit
Attendance Allowance
Carer’s Allowance
Disability Living Allowance
Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Income Support
Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Pension Credit
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Tax Credits
Additionally, many people receiving Universal Credit should notice a slight increase in their payment this month, as working-age benefits have risen by 1.7% to reflect inflation from September of the previous year.
